The adoption process

Becoming a parent through adoption is easier and quicker than you might think. The process is there to make sure the adoption is a success for both you and the child.

Pre-stage one

At this early stage, our priority is making sure you have all the information you need to get started on your adoption journey.

Stage one

Average time: 2 months

The focus of stage one is to learn a bit more about you and your history. At this stage, we’ll go through an information pack with you and ask for references.

Stage two

Average time: 4 months

Stage two of the process will prepare you for becoming an adoptive parent. From meeting with the adoption panel to matching with a child, your social worker will be there to support you through this stage.

If you’re interested in adoption, need additional support, or just want to ask us some questions, we’d love to hear from you.

You can also speak to an adoption worker for an informal chat, and we can then send you an information pack.
