What is a Therapeutic Family Support Worker?

A Therapeutic Family Support Worker provides post adoption support for families facing a current challenge within their family life.

A Therapeutic Family Support Worker will listen to, and hear each individual family’s needs, and will work together to support and help overcome the obstacles that they face.

In partnership with the family, to ensure a whole service and family approach in meeting the needs, they will assess and work together towards an agreed goal that will help improve family life.

The Therapeutic Family Support Worker delivers a bespoke package of support to adoptive families (parents, carers, and children) on a one to one basis. The Interventions are delivered on a planned basis, or at short notice to respond to crises to prevent family placement breakdown.

The intervention may include:

There will be an agreed assessment and planned work for referred adults and children for up to 6 sessions in each individual package of support followed by a review process.

Referrals can be made to the Post Adoption Support Service by any Family or a Professional worker, with the consent of the Family.

If you’re interested in adoption, need additional support, or just want to ask us some questions, we’d love to hear from you.

You can also speak to an adoption worker for an informal chat, and we can then send you an information pack.
